CONSTITUTION DAY

Library Kendriya Vidyalaya Goalpara is celebrating 26th November every year.

Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas or National Law Day, is celebrated in India on November 26 every year.

Why is the Constitution Day celebrated?

On November 26, 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India formally adopted the Constitution of India. It came into force on January 26, 1950. Constitution Day aims to bring awareness about the importance of the Constitution and Dr. B R Ambedkar.

Who started the Constitution Day?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked November 26 as the Constitution Day of India in 2015.

What is the Constitution of India?

The Constitution is a set of written principles and precedents of the Government of India. It frames fundamental political principles, procedures, rights, directive principles, restrictions and duties of the government and the citizens of the country. The Constitution of India declares the country a sovereign, secular, socialist and democratic republic. It assures its citizens equality, liberty and justice.

Who wrote the Constitution of India?

B R Ambedkar, chairman of the drafting committee, is considered to be the chief architect of the Constitution of India. He is also called the Father of the Indian Constitution. The Constitution of India was drafted by the members of the Constituent Assembly.

What is the preamble to the Constitution of India?

Preamble is a brief statement which records the aims and aspirations of the people of India. The preamble to the Constitution of India reads:

“We, the people of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic, republic, and to secure to all its citizens:

Justice, social, economic and political; liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; equality of status and of opportunity, and to promote among them all — fraternity assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;

In our Constituent Assembly this twenty-sixth day of November, 1949, do hereby adopt, enact and give to ourselves this constitution.”

How did the Constitution of India come into being?

From 1947 to 1950, India continued to use the legislation implemented when it was a dominion of Britain. In the meantime, the Constituent Assembly drafted the Constitution of India, which would replace the Government of India Act, 1935, as the country's fundamental governing document. The Constitution was drawn from a number of sources, while India's needs and conditions were given paramount importance. B R Ambedkar studied the Constitutions of over 60 countries before drafting the Constitution of India.

A brief timeline:

On December 6, 1949 the Constitution Assembly was formed and its first meeting was held on December 9. Rajendra Prasad was appointed its President and H C Mukherjee its vice-chairman. On August 29, 1947, the drafting committee appointed Ambedkar as its chairman and six other members — Munshi N Gopalaswami Ayyangar, Khaitan, Mitter, Muhammed Sadulla, Alladi Krishnaswamy Iyer. The members of the Constituent Assembly signed two hand-written copies of the document (one each in Hindi and English) on January 24, 1950. On November 26, 1949, the Constitution of India was adopted by the Assembly. On January 26, 1950, the Constitution was enforced.

He is also credited with establishment of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and laid foundation of University Grants Commission, an important institution to supervise and advance higher education throughout the country.

Its objective is to strengthen educational institutions and to raise quality of education to greater heights. It also seeks to remember Maulana Azad’s contribution in laying the foundations of education system in an independent India as well as to evaluate our current performance in this field.

He was born on 11 November 1888 and died on 22 February 1958. He was senior Muslim leader of Indian National Congress(INC) during Indian independence movement. He is commonly remembered as Maulana Azad (word Maulana is honorific meaning ‘Our Master’) and he had adopted Azad (Free) as his pen name. He was first Minister of Education of Independent India. He had played important role in foundation of Jamia Millia Islamia at Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. He assisted in shifting campus of university from Aligarh to New Delhi in 1934.

During his young age, he rose to prominence through his work as journalist, publishing works critical of British Raj and espousing causes of Indian nationalism. He later became enthusiastic supporter of Gandhi’s ideas of non-violent civil disobedience and worked to organize the non-co-operation movement in protest of the 1919 Rowlatt Acts.

He was committed to Gandhi’s ideals, including promoting Swadeshi (indigenous) products and cause of Swaraj (Self-rule) for India. In 1923, at age of 35, he became youngest person to serve as President of Indian National Congress. National Unity Day 2022

National Unity Day ( Rashtriya Ekta Diwas), is celebrated in India on 31 October. It was introduced by the Government of India in 2014. The day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who had a major role in the political integration of India.

Objective and pledge

The official statement for National Unity Day by the Home Ministry of India cites that the National Unity Day "will provide an opportunity to re-affirm the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity, integrity, and security of our country."

On the day, a pledge is read out in government offices:

I solemnly pledge that I dedicate myself to preserving the unity, integrity, and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread this message among my fellow countrymen. I take this pledge in the spirit of the unification of my country which was made possible by the vision and actions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. I also solemnly resolve to make my own contribution to ensure the internal security of my country.

31 October is also celebrated as Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas or National Pledge Day as it marks the day of assassination of Indira Gandhi. Several schools and colleges, especially in Congress-run states, organize rallies and programmes in remembrance of Indira Gandhi.

152nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi Or Bapu, as he was lovingly addressed by all, was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, a coastal town on the Kathiawar Peninsula. Mohandas Gandhi was the last child of his father (Karamchand Gandhi) and his father's fourth wife (Putlibai). Karamchand Gandhi (1822-1885), served as the diwan (chief minister) of Porbander state. His mother, Putlibai, was from a Pranami Vaishnava family. Mohandas has his schooling in nearby Rajkot. During his youth, Mohandas Gandhi was shy, soft-spoken, and only a mediocre student at school. His father died before Gandhi could finish his-schooling.

In 1888 Gandhi set sail for England, where he had decided to pursue a degree in law. Though his elders objected, Gandhi could not be prevented from leaving. In London he studied law at University College London, where he studied Indian law and jurisprudence and trained as a barrister at the Inner Temple. His time in London was influenced by a vow he had made to his mother upon leaving India, in the presence of a Jain monk, to observe the precepts of abstinence from meat and alcohol as well as of promiscuity.

When in 1915 Gandhi returned to India after his stint in South Africa he brought an international reputation as a leading Indian nationalist, theorist and organizer. He joined the Indian National Congress and was introduced to Indian issues, politics and the Indian people primarily by Gopal Krishna Gokhale.

He spent his remaining years working diligently to both remove British rule from India as well as to better the lives of India's poorest classes.
Gandhi's first major achievements came in 1918 with the Champaran and Kheda agitations of Bihar and Gujarat. Pursuing a strategy of non-violent protest, Gandhi took the administration by surprise and won concessions from the authorities. He had a firm belief in and asked his followers to employ non-co-operation, non-violence and peaceful resistance as their "weapons" in the struggle against the British Raj. His wide popularity among both Hindus and Muslims made his leadership possible; he even convinced the extreme faction of Muslims to support peaceful non-co-operation.

He also fought for the rights of the untouchables and gave them the name 'Harijans'. He lived modestly in a self-sufficient residential community and wore the traditional Indian dhoti and shawl, woven with yarn hand spun on a charkha. He ate simple vegetarian food, and also undertook long fasts as means of both self-purification and social protest.
Gandhi is commonly, though not officially, considered the Father of the Nation in India. His birthday, 2 October, is commemorated there as Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday, and world-wide as the International Day of Non-Violence.

Teachers' Day 2022

Teachers' Day is a special day for the appreciation of teachers and may include celebrations to honor them for their special contributions in a particular field area, or the community tone in education. This is the primary reason why countries celebrate this day on different dates, unlike many other International Days. For example, Argentina has commemorated Domingo Faustino Sarmiento's death on 11 September as Teachers' Day since 1915. In India the birthday of the second president Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, 5 September, is celebrated as Teachers' Day since 1962, while Guru Purnima has been traditionally observed as a day to worship teachers/gurus by Hindus. Many countries celebrate their Teachers' Day on 5 October in conjunction with World Teachers' Day, which was established by UNESCO in 1994.

VIJAY DIWAS (16TH DECEMBER 1971)

Vijay Diwas is observed in every year on December 16 as a mark of victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war that also led to the creation of Bangladesh.

History

The 1971 Indo-Pak war lasted for almost 13 days and ended on December 16. Pakistan's Army General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi surrendered before the Indian Army and Mukti-Bahini leading to the creation of a new state in India's east called Bangladesh. Gen. Niazi surrendered along with his 93,000 Pakistani troops. Bangladesh also celebrates its Independence Day (Bijoy Diwas) on December 16 annually. Since then, the day is observed as Vijay Diwas.

Importance

On this day, the nation pays tribute to brave soldiers of India and Bangladesh who laid down their lives in the line of duty and those who took part in the Liberation War.

The 'liberation war' in the then East Pakistan was initiated after Pakistan ill-treated its Bengali speaking population and undermined elections results in the region. The then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had expressed India's full support for the liberation war in Bangladesh.

The then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, extended her full support to the liberation struggle of (East Pakistan) Bangladesh that helped it to become a free nation.

The 1971 Indo-Pak war lasted for almost 13 days and ended on December 16. On this day, the nation pays tribute to brave soldiers of India and Bangladesh who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

According to reports, there were reports of a massacre of Bengali especially Hindus by the Pakistan army. At least 10 million people were forced to migrate to India during the war. Other reports also suggested that the iconic Taj Mahal was camouflaged by leaves during the war to save it from any Pakistani attacks.

'Swarnim Vijay Varsh'

This year also completes 50 years of India’s victory over Pakistan. The government is organising 'Swarnim Vijay Varsh' programme where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and defence minister Rajnath Singh will also mark their presence. The event will be organised at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.

Collection of 20(Twenty) Children's Movies

20(Twenty) Children's Movies

Children’s movies are an excellent tool for educating students. Movies are very useful to show students different cultures, to teach them history, accustom them to fundamental and moral values, and show them how to think in a simple and entertaining way. For children, it is considered to be more important to create a love of reading, which in many ways is correct. Movies, however, are an excellent option to compliment a child’s education. Both audio and visual media are great ways to capture a child’s attention and slowly introduce new ideas and contents.
